1 Ashton Utd - home on Tue Feb 07 2017, 08:40

At a rainy and windswept WMG, it was a case of job done as we moved into second place with a very efficient performance against a more-than-useful Ashton side that never gave up. On such an awful night, it was good to see a crowd of 504 which brings our average league gate this season to a very healthy 800.

With confidence boosted by the early goal created by Ethan, our first half display was impressive including a goal from the left (!) foot of Tom. Bearing in mind the yet more changes brought about by Saturday's injuries, all credit to the replacements and the overall spirit and determination on our squad. We shouldn't forget that, compared with the Wycombe game, our team last night was five players short.

Matt had a busier night than usual and, apart from one rash chase in vain outside his box, he had a sound game. I can only recall him having to make one very good save.

Stuart marshalled the defence well. Although Josh didn't look entirely comfortable at left back, he was always focused and made some important tackles.

The midfield worked their socks off with Leon's work rate being prodigious.

Luke had a rare off-night where his usual adept touches let him down but his commitment was faultless. Jordan was always a handful and his goal from the tightest of angles was class.

However, the goal of the night was the second from the fans' favourite, Kayelden. Speculative it might have been but it was brilliant to see. He fully deserved the standing ovation when subbed.

All-in-all, an excellent night's work and puts in a very good frame of mind for the next two crucial games against Grantham and Blyth.

An all round excellent performance especially given the weather, plus the vocal support from the shed both halves certainly helped the team.

Great to see so many supporters turning up in such appalling conditions, and may our good run continue at Grantham on Saturday.

All we need now is a very big crane that can lift the shed from one end to the other for each half and we'll be much better off.

Quack, Quack, Quack lol!

P.S: If you are going to Grantham on Saturday then don't forget your Binoculars, as their ground has got a running track round it so your miles away from the pitch Wink
