As for the match, it was an excellent performance by everyone on & off the pitch in atrocious conditions. With regards to their supporters complaining about our players acting, well if they'd tried to kick the ball instead of the opposition they might have been better off. Their No.5 was a dirty bugger right from the kick-off, so it was only a matter of time before he got his marching orders.

Considering the time of year it was nice to see that their club had no heating in it what so ever, which meant having to travel all the way back in wet clothes. Just hope I don't go down with a stinking cold before the next round, and for some reason I keep singing that song by Eruption called "I Can't Stand The Rain" although I can't think why Laughing

Brilliant Team Performance
Brilliant Support
Brilliant Result
Brilliant Day Out

All in all a pretty good day.

I don't know how good Workington are ( 2- 2 against Hednesford suggests they are ok) but we made them look a very poor side.
Thought the ref had a good game, got the cards right and tried to keep the game flowing.
A really good team performance with everyone playing their part, the only time I felt worried was when Ryan missed that good opportunity early 2nd half.
Baz said to me 'it will be just our luck for them to break away and score a fluke'. But they didn't even threaten to score, apart from one long shot first half which he held and his 2nd half dive and hold at a forwards feet 2nd half Dean had very little to do.

And yes Tricky, I was one of those who 'fled for cover' , rain I can take , but heavy rain p*ssing down like stair rods in strong winds I will leave to you youngsters Any way I was collecting MotM tickets from our supporters in the stand, I did need 20 mins to do that , honest.

With 1 vote to come, the MotM went to Will with 11 votes, Luke received 8, Jamie 3 Sean 2 and Drew 1.

The wine was won by Ethan, that'll be 4 bottled waters then mate, any particular flavour?

He could have gone for when he kicked the back of Rowey's leg about 10 minutes earlier but none of the officials saw it.

Makes me smile reading on Workington's forum how "average" we are.

Been reading that a lot lately from other teams' supporters. Usually after we've beaten them! Laughing

They were worse than us, a fact that nobody on Workington's forum seems to be denying, to be fair to them!

Average teams don't tend to win 8 consecutive games of football! Let them all keep under-estimating us,all that is likely to do is to spur us on even more.

I've only seen two worse sides than Workington this season,Redditch United and Bedford, regardless of the fact they beat us.

Even Alvechurch would have given Workington a game!

Their defence on Saturday was hopeless, with Ben playing i'm convinced we'd have won by six or seven.

One thing i will say though, they do seem to have fan's who are really passionate looking at their forum.

The photo of oliver's goal made tonight's Express and star, i'm just to the right of his head at the back of the stand! people in the office may now accept I went all that way for a "non league match", with the odd exception if you discuss football at my place and it's not England, Albion, top 4, or champions league they look at at you as if you have two heads!! and try explaining the FA Cup starts in August!

Report from Workington's local paper, also pretty fair and complimentary to us...

A rude interruption of the Workington manager's post match interview. Very Happy

Yes, the only trouble is you have to wade through all the boring ones of the match to find them!!! Very Happy

EDIT - That's a joke, by the way, in case Will's reading this. Superb photos and a good record of the whole afternoon, not just the stuff that happened on the pitch.

I noted with interest that Workington's gate had dropped from 519 when they played us last week down to just 265 yesterday!

Quite pleased for them that they got a win though,i wouldn't like to see a grand old club like that with fine history drop another level.

It was an even start first as both sides had early chances. Stourbridge capitalised with a goal after 10 minutes from a corner. They seemed in control for parts of the half and things looked worst for Workington when they had a man sent off after 35 minutes of play.  Stourbridge had a very passionate and vocal fan that would often stand and shout huge amounts of criticism to the team.

It is interesting to watch these games as a neutral observer.  The referee had a huge amount of abuse hurled his way after every single decision.  A free kick awarded to Workington was a good decision according to the Workington fans but an awful terrible ‘blind-man’s’ decision to the Stourbridge fans and vice versa.  Every time any player went to ground he was a 'cheat' and one fan would repeatedly shout when they got back up ‘I see you’ve recovered from your broken leg.’ It is fantastic to hear as a neutral how passionate the fans at all levels of football can be – the away Stourbridge fans behind Workington AFC’s goal were the loudest and most passionate as they intermittently sang for their team.

From a blog about the Cup!
